Healthy Pani Puri Recipe Without Potatoes

Simple, tasty and healthy Pani Puri Recipe with peas filling. Zero Potato Recipe.

People who are on a weight management journey or are diabetic, often find it difficult to eat Pani Puri because of the potatoes in it. Since most vendors use potatoes for taste, it is difficult to find an alternate filling for the puris.

We have brought you a Pani Puri recipe that is low on calories, has a nice taste and its filling is made with peas(white/yellow chana). The aim of this recipe to help you get an alternative of your most favorite dish at home.

Ingredients

For Panipuri

  1. Wheat Flour (atta) – 50 grams
  2. Sooji Rava – 50 grams
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Water – 1 Cup
  5. Oil/Air Fryer

For Filling

  1. Peas – 50 grams (dry weight) soaked overnight and boiled till they melt
    • Alternatively you can also use Chickpeas but not Black Chana.
  2. Chopped Onion – 1 small sized
  3. Garam Masala – 1/2 teaspoon
  4. Jeera (Cumin) Powder – one pinch
  5. Dhania (Coriander) Powder – one pinch
  6. Chopped Coriander Leaves – 1 teaspoon
  7. Chopped Green Chilli – 1 to 2
  8. Mustard Oil (optional)
  9. Chilli Powder

For Pani Puri’s Water

  1. 1/2 cup Pudina (mint) leaves
  2. 1/2 cup Dhania (coriander) leaves
  3. 1/4th inch Ginger
  4. Salt to Taste (preferably black salt)
  5. Chaat Masala or Jaljeera Powder
  6. Raita Boondi (optional)

Recipe

For Pani Puri Balls

  1. Soak some sooji rava.
  2. Knead it with the dough with at low amount of water as possible. The dough needs to be hard.
  3. Keep it aside for 30 minutes.
  4. Cut small balls and roll them on round shape.
  5. Fry the atta discs till they take the shape of the Pani Puri.

If you do not want to make Pani Puri balls at home, get a ready made bag of them. They usually last a week before going stale or soft.

For Filling

  1. Boil the peas till they are mushy. Move it with a spoon to check.
  2. Take it out in a bowl.
  3. Add chopped onions, chopped green chillies, grated ginger(optional), jeera-dhaniya powder mix, some chaat masala and chilli powder (preferably Kashmirilal).

For Pani Puri’s Water

  1. Grind 1/2 cup each of Dhaniya and Pudina leaves along with grated ginger (adds more taste) and green chilli.
  2. Add the black salt and chaat masala to it.
  3. Add water as per your choice.
  4. Add Raita Boondi at least 5 minutes before serving.
